9-week-old baby missing for a month as parents arrested for neglect after 'conflicting stories'

Mystery" Chance Walsh has been missing for a monthFears are growing for a missing nine-week-old baby boy as his parents were arrested on suspicion of neglect.

A huge search is underway for little Chance Walsh who has been missing for a month.

The infant's grandparents contacted police on Sunday to report that he had not been seen since September 9.

They said they had made many failed attempts to check on their grandson's welfare because his parents are long-time drug users, police said.

Officers in Sarasota, Florida, discovered the tot's mum and dad, Kristen Bury and Joseph Walsh, had dialled 911 in South Carolina claiming to have been involved in a car crash.

The couple allegedly gave conflicting stories about what had happened to their son, including that he was unharmed, that he was killed in the crash and that he had been given to a woman in neighbouring state Georgia.

Investigations have shown the baby was not in the car when it crash, nor was there room for a car seat, ABC News reported.

The mystery woman in Georgia was also tracked down, who confirmed that the couple had tried to sell her baby clothes but did not have the infant with them but had claimed he had died three weeks earlier.

Officers from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office searched the couple's house in Florida where they found blood on bed pillows, comforters and a mattress, WFTS-TV reported.

Forensic tests showed a possible presence of human remains but the baby remains missing, ABC News reported.

Police are now working with the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to locate Chance.

Walsh and Bury were arrested in South Carolina and have been charged with child neglect.

They are each being held on $150,000 bond in Jasper County awaiting extradition to the Sarasota County Jail.
