Filomena Vargas, 96, was shoved to the floor by Hansel Ramirez as he tried to gain entry to her apartment building

Confrontation: Filomena Vargas tries to block Ramirez's way

A 96-year-old woman who broke her hip after she was shoved to the floor while trying to stop a suspected intruder has died from her injuries, it was reported.

Filomena Vargas refused to let Hansel Ramirez, 24, into her New York apartment, barring his way with her walking stick.

Ramirez - who doesn't live in the apartment - was allegedly caught on camera forcing the door open and shoving the elderly lady to gain entry, the Daily News reported.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident on September 28.

Speaking from her hospital bed shortly after the alleged assault, Vargas told the Daily News: “He acted like he was the boss.

"He acted like he owned the building. He’s bad ... bad."

Sadly, the great-great-grandmother died of her injuries on Monday, officials said.

A post mortem showed her death was a result of the injuries she sustained.

The charges against Ramirez are now expected to be upgraded.

He is being held on $5,000 bail and is due back in court on October 28, officials said.
