So-called ‘world’s ugliest woman’ has turned all the hate into empowerment

Lizzie Velasquez was born with a rare disease that has made her blind in one eye and prevents her from gaining weight.

Oh, and she also happens to be a total legend.

A few years ago when Lizzie, 26, was on YouTube, she saw a video of herself with more than four million views.

It was titled: ‘THE WORLD’S UGLIEST WOMAN.’

And because people on the internet can be complete a***holes, the comments underneath weren’t kind either.

One person had written ‘why would her parents keep her’, while another said ‘why don’t you do everyone a favour and just kill yourself’.

People wrote some ridiculous things about Lizzie online. (Picture: YouTube)

‘There were thousands and thousands of awful comments, all along the lines of, the world would be a better place if I weren’t in it,’ Lizzie told Fox.

‘Each comment I read I felt like someone was physically putting their fist through the screen and punching me.’

Somehow, because she’s awesome, 26-year-old Lizzie was able to turn all this hate into a positive.

‘I always knew I wanted to show those people that they weren’t going to define me,’ she said.

‘I didn’t want the definition of me that they were creating to become my truth.’

Now she travels the world giving talks to children about bullying, and has released a documentary, ‘A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez story’.
