Gunmen kill one, kidnap musician in Bayelsa

One Ebikabowei Umbu, 37, was on Sunday, shot dead by some unidentified gunmen who reportedly invaded the Polako community in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

According to reports, an Ijaw musician, one Pereama Freetown, was kidnapped in the process.

The police spokesperson in Bayelsa, Asinim Butwat, confirming the incident, saying the hoodlums escaped through the waterways.

Butwat said, “On the 15 November, 2015, at about 0300hrs, some unknown gunmen invaded Polako Community in Yenagoa LGA, and abducted one Pereama Freetown, a popular musician.

“While escaping with the victim, the unknown gunmen shot sporadically killing one Ebikabowei Umbu, male aged 37.

The spokesperson stated further that the gunmen escaped through the Polako River to an unknown destination.

“However, the Marine Police, Anti-Kidnapping unit and Operation Pulo Shield have swung into action in search of the victim in order to arrest the suspects,” Butwat said.
