Two brothers arrested over death of 48-year-old bricklayer in Lagos

A developer and his brother are currently cooling their heels in custody of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing a 48-year-old bricklayer, Musibau Alimi.

The deceased who hailed from Ibadan, Oyo State, was said to have been killed in an uncompleted one-storey building at Olosa bus stop, along Agege Motor Road, Mushin area of the state where he had gone to work.

It was learnt that Alimi was waiting to collect payment for the work he had done about two months ago when he met his death.

Alimi’s corpse was removed from the scene of the incident and deposited in a public morgue in Yaba by police officers from the Alakara Police Division.

Alimi’s wife, Bose while speaking on her husband’s death on Monday said the deceased did not disclose how much the developer owed him, adding that her husband usually lamented the fact that he had not been paid any money.

Bose said, “On that Thursday morning, I had followed him to that site because I wanted to collect some money from him. It was around 9am that we got there; we met some carpenters working on the roof, and he greeted them.

“I also saw the barber; his shop is opposite the site. I was asking Musibau for money to pay our kids’ school fees and other house expenses, but he lamented that he did not have money as the developer on the site had not paid him any wage since he began work.

“After some minutes, I left him and came back home. In the afternoon, when my children came back from school, I sent one of them to go and see their father. When he got there, he told me he saw the barber standing in the doorway, and the barber shouted at him, saying that Musibau was not working on the site.

“I was calling his phone number in the afternoon but it kept ringing out. When I later rushed to the site, I met the developer and the barber at the entrance too. The barber was holding my husband’s phone.”

Bose, a mother of four further stated that she had to call the attention of Alimi’s friend when she felt something was not right.
The mother of four added that the deceased’s friend later discovered the 48-year-old’s mutilated body in the building.

She said, “I asked him to give me the phone. The only thing the two of them said was that my husband had been attacked and he could not talk. They asked me to come inside and see him.

I suspected something was wrong and I said no. I then called his friends on the phone to come around. When they came, we went in and discovered his mutilated body in the upper part of the building.”

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspects have been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for further investigation.
